To me origami is an amazing “tech” concept, taking something simple (paper) and creating something complex (like a crane, dog, or flower) by only using itself. For my senior thesis project I researched origami and how it affects the design world. As technology is advancing scientist and designers are considering simpler solutions to problems. Today origami techniques are applied to science, everyday products, packaging, and new areas of art.
The focus of this project was to create an informational, interactive display. The main component is the infographics with Aurasma interaction. (Icons that have an “A” next to them can be used with the Aurasma app on an electronic device to show a real world photo of the icon and its related origami technique.) The second component was infographic display. I originally wanted to display the infographics on large paper (water bomb) squares. Due to production challenges I created simple posters instead but the infographics were still effective.
To complete the information and interactive elements I created an origami take-away packet. I designed an overview paper, origami instructions, and “example” candy wrappers. The packet encourages people to try origami for themselves and explore new origami materials.
